Here are latest world sports news update-

1. The Copa America cup

The Copa America cup will be held from June 13 to July 4. This is a football tournament. It’s going to be the third time that this event is going to be held in the United States. 

However, this year there will be a total of 32 teams participating in this event each with their own group. 

The qualified teams are the national teams from the fifteen associations who have been present in the last edition of Copa America

These are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru. The others are Mexico and Uruguay who have recently received AFC membership and South Korea who has been approved as a FIFA member.

2. Asian Games

The Asian games will be held from August 18 to September 2. This is a multi-sport event and will be the 23rd time that it will be held in the country. 

There are a total of 571 athletes who have been selected to compete in this event. Among them there are 374 men and 150 women.

There are 14 sports out of which 7 ones are new for this year’s Asian games. The sports included in this event are athletics, aquatics, archery, badminton, baseball and softball, bowling, cycling, football (soccer), gymnastics and tennis.

3. Canoe slalom world cup

The canoe slalom world cup’s Sydney event will be held from August 20 to 22. This is an international competition that takes place every year in the month of August/September. 

This year it’s being held in Sydney, Australia after two years.

This is a competition where athletes are supposed to perform on racing kayaks in order to go through a man made waterway or channel which consists of artificial features like hard turns, waves and drops. 

The sport is quite dangerous as you’ll be using the racing kayaks which are much faster compared to their traditional ones. The athlete has to steer his kayak through the waterway by using the paddle in order to gain an advantage over the competitors.

4. European open golf tournament

The European open will be held from July 31 to August 2. This is a golf tournament that’s part of the pro tour and is considered one of the most important events in golf. Last year it was held in Scotland and this year it’s being held near Dublin, Ireland. 

There are a total of 156 participants who have been selected for this event. Among them there are 67 men and 89 women.

There are various ways in which a player can qualify to take part in this event. These include a world ranking through the number of earnings made in the last two years. 

Then there’s also a European tour ranking through the number of payments made since 2007. The other way entails being professional for ten years and then getting an invitation from the organisers.

The top three players from this event will be given a place to compete at the third stage of this championship which is being held early next year – 2014.

5. Australian open tennis tournament

The Australian Open will be held from August 14 to 18. This is an international tennis tournament and is considered one of the most important and oldest championships in tennis history. 

This year the event is being held in Melbourne, Australia. For this year’s edition there are total of 32 singles players and 16 doubles pairs who will compete for the title.

6. World Club Cup

The world club cup will be held from March 5 to March 9. This is a competition that’s usually organised by FIFA and UEFA where 8 clubs participate every year in the knockout style format. 

The participating teams are supposed to be among the top football clubs in their respective countries. There are 4 group stages during which each of the teams is supposed to play one match with another team of its group on a home or away basis, depending on where they’re playing their home games.

The group winners from each group go through to the final. In the final the two teams play a single knockout match that’s decided by a penalty shoot -out. 

The winning team is declared the champion of this world club cup event.
